He also enjoyed farming for a number of years on the family farm at Rushbrook. <br />He married Bridie Conway in 1956 in Liverpool. One year later, the couple returned home to Rushbrook, where they set up home. They spent many happy years there before moving to the family home at Drummindoo. <br />Among his many interests, especially in his retirement, were Gaelic games and soccer, reflecting his lifelong love of sport. <br />He also took a very keen interest in local and national affairs. He was a well-respected neighbour and friend to many on the Castlebar Road. <br />Michael John had a very special interest in gardening. It was a pastime that he loved, and he carried it out in a most meticulous fashion. Whether it was mowing the grass or weeding the flowers, everything had to be done to perfection. He also wanted to make sure that everything looked well. <br />The same code of standards applied to himself and to social occasions. Weekend Masses were always events for which Michael John donned his best suit and shoes.
