Brookfield stabbing suspect weeps as judge denies bail cut
DANBURY -- Less than a week after being accused of brutally stabbing his co-worker after giving him a ride home, 18-year-old stood shackled and handcuffed Monday before a judge.
With short-cropped hair, and long, thin sideburns, and wearing a green jacket with a camouflage-lined hood,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], tan pants and sneakers, the husky Danbury teen looked nervous as he stood among other defendants awaiting arraignments.
Hutwohl burst into tears when the judge denied a reduction in the $900,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 bail keeping him behind bars. He tried to talk to the judge, but was quieted by his attorney.
He is now on suicide watch,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Attorney , who is representing Hutwohl for bond purposes only, asked for a reduction in bail to $250,000. He said his client has "roots and ties to the community from birth," and no criminal history.

Hutwohl was charged Friday with attempted murder and first-degree assault,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], two days after the attack on Fitch.
Judge Denise Markle said because of the seriousness of the offense and its violent nature, the bail would remain at $900,000. The case was continued to Monday.
Several friends and family members, including Hutwohl's sisters,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wept in the courtroom when the bail reduction was denied. Wednesday, apparently in the roadway outside his Drover Road home in Brookfield.
Fitch underwent surgery Wednesday at . April 10 and,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his mother Paulette Fitch said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], probably went to a club with his friends -- either Tuxedo Junction in Danbury or in Bethel. Fitch was not driving that night because of car problems.
According to the affidavit, after the attack, Hutwohl went to the Danbury police station,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], claiming he and a friend were attacked on Route 25 in Brookfield. He said he went to the because it was the only one he knew.
Officer said he saw blood on Hutwohl's hands, and Hutwohl was holding the back of his head as though injured. He told police he had possible injuries to the knuckles of his right hand and to his side.
He was taken to Danbury Hospital by ambulance for treatment of his injuries.
The vehicle Hutwohl drove to the police department,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a red Eagle Talon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was seized by police for investigation.
Police found blood stains on the steering wheel,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the left portion of the passenger seat, the gear shift knob,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and what appeared to be a bloody impression of a hand or palm on the right side of the hatchback.
According to the affidavit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Hutwohl told police he and Fitch were attacked by a man when they got out of the car at Fitch's house. He told police at one point the man picked him up and threw him on top of Fitch. He then drove to the Danbury Police Department.
"Hutwohl did not know the man who attacked them and could not describe him," the affidavit stated.
According to the affidavit, Fitch told police he has known and worked with Hutwohl for four months. He said while the two drove around looking for some "alleged people Josh knew from New York" because they were going to race on White Turkey Extension,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where Hutwohl found a 2-by-4 in a commuter lot and began waving it around. He later threw it in the roadway in front of Fitch's house and said he wouldn't need it anymore.
Fitch told police after the two said goodbye in the roadway in front of his home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he remembers getting hit with the board a couple of times,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "and then saw Josh jump on top of him. Josh kept swinging at him."
According to the affidavit, medical records showed no injury or trauma to Hutwohl, but Fitch sustained trauma to the back of his head, which required stitches, along with other life-threatening injuries.
