Innocent mother targeted in gang's 24
In one attack,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the mother of murder victim Eddie McCabe narrowly avoided being shot.
The attack on grandmother Linda McCabe's home took place in a 24-hour period of violence which saw a grenade thrown at two family homes, three houses fired at and a 16-year-old boy arrested with a shotgun.
The 'new wave' of young gangsters in the Crumlin area are being blamed for the violence -- in particular those associated with the King Ratt gang, including a female member in her 20s.
Gardai believe that they staged the attacks under the cover of fireworks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], knowing that emergency services would be stretched.
The attacks are linked to an ongoing feud between factions within the wider Crumlin feud,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. The factions are loosely aligned to the King Ratt and Freddie Thompson gangs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
A source told the Herald: "We're lucky that we're not dealing with a murder today. These maniacs were inches from shooting a completely innocent woman, Linda McCabe. Twentyfour hours later a grenade exploded outside the homes of two innocent families. Things are at a knife edge."
Linda McCabe narrowly avoided a bullet that was fired through a downstairs window of her Rafter's Lane, Drimnagh, home in the first attack at 12.30am yesterday.
Mrs McCabe - who is completely innocent - has already buried her husband and son, both of whom were brutally murdered in separate incidents years apart.
Eddie McCabe Snr was shot dead in Tallaght in November 1995. He was rumoured to have had a row with a close associate of murdered crime boss Martin Cahill earlier that night.
Her son Eddie was tortured and murdered in a sickening screwdriver attack in Inchicore in 2006 - believed to have been carried out by members of the King Ratt gang,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The shooting at Mrs McCabe's home came after an earlier mass brawl at a licensed premises in Drimnagh on Sunday evening.
Gardai believe that younger criminals - aligned to the King Ratt and Freddie Thompson crime gangs - were involved in the row.
A prominent female member of the King Ratt gang issued a chilling threat following the bust up on Sunday evening.
According to a source she instructed witnesses not to talk to gardai and stated the matter "was going to be sorted out".
Just hours later gunmen travelling in a black car carried out two shootings in the area.
At 10.30pm shots were fired at a house on Mourne Road in Drimnagh. No one was injured in that incident,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Two hours later the shooting took place at the McCabe home. Gardai believe that the shootings may have been carried out by the same gunmen.
The violence reignited at 11.10pm last night when a fragmentation grenade exploded outside two homes on Monasterboice Road in Crumlin. A couple and child were in one house and a lone female in another,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Walls and windows were damaged in the attack.
The families targeted are not involved in crime.
The force of the blast also appears to have blown the window off the neighbouring house,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
At 2am today a house was shot at in the Galtymore Road area and gardai believe that this may also be linked,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
In the midst of the overnight violence gardai arrested a 16- year-old boy with a shotgun at Herberton Road in Rialto. He is in custody today and his arrest is linked to the violence,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
