The death has taken place in the devoted proper care of his group of Mr Michael John Reidy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Drummindoo, Castlebar Road, Westport,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a valued and highly-respected senior person in the neighborhood parish community. A native of Rushbrook,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Clogher, Westport, he was aged 93 years and was predeceased by his wife Bridie (nee Conway).
Michael John worked as a lorry driver with Mayo County Council for 33 years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. He also enjoyed farming for several years on the family farm at Rushbrook.
He married Bridie Conway in 1956 in Liverpool. One year later,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the couple returned the place to find Rushbrook,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where they setup home. They spent many happy years there before moving to the family home at Drummindoo.
Among his many interests, especially in his retirement, were Gaelic games and soccer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], reflecting his lifelong love of sport.
He also took an extremely keen curiosity about local and national affairs. He would be a well-respected neighbour and friend to a lot of about the Castlebar Road.
Michael John had a very special interest in gardening. It had been an activity he loved, and he carried it out inside a most meticulous fashion. Whether or not this was mowing the grass or weeding the flowers, everything had to be done to perfection. He also wanted to ensure that everything looked well.
The same code of standards applied to himself and to social occasions. Weekend Masses were always events that Michael John donned his be perfect for and shoes. It had been an optimistic attitude he held to the end of his life.
Michael John was a person of very deep faith and the Mass, and daily prayers were central parts of his life. The concelebrants were Fr Tom Mulligan (PP Attymass),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Fr Pat Donnellan (PP Islandeady),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Fr Miche Mac Gr SJ, Fr Vincent Kelly (family friend and neighbour) and Fr Gerard Burns (PP Letterfrack), whose late mother, Babs, was a work colleague of Michael John wife, Bridie, for several years.
Members of the family participated in the liturgy, that was beautifully complemented by the singing of St Mary Church Choir.
In his homily, Fr Carney paid tribute to Michael John like a devoted husband for several years along with a caring and loving father and grandfather.
He said he would be a man of very deep faith who had been a familiar figure for several years at Masses along with other services in St Mary Church. behalf of the priests the ones of the parish, I extend sympathy to Michael John son, daughters, grandchildren and extended family on the sad loss. />
