Range Rover's new baby has a twin! We saw the sporty three-door Evoque at the recent Paris Motor Show,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but now a new five-door version promises to offer the same desirability with superior versatility and we were there live for its official unveiling in LA.
Besides the additional pair of rear doors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there are no obvious major visual changes. The front ends are the same,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while both cars are identical in width,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], length and wheelbase. There is one key difference,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], though - an increase in height of 30mm above the driver's head and 40mm at the rear.
The five-door's window line is less tapered towards the back. Step inside and the advantages are obvious,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with an airier cabin all-round. Those in the back gain a better view out of the side windows as well as more head and shoulder room,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while the taller windscreen gives better visibility.
this is all good and eye catching design but i think there needs to be a hefty concentration on providing better powertrains of their own. think the investment will pay off,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as the Ford contract nears an end. Although Tata say they will help out with this but we do need them to be viable competitors against the good 3.0 V6 deisel or petrol straight sixes of the BMW. Its my opinion but i don't like the idea of a BMW engine in Jags,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], reliable it maybe but think engines manufacturred by different companies have their own character that defines the car and i am sure it will be better. Overall the LR range is looking impressive and interior design is brill. Would be interesting to see if they can provide a one off limited edition of high end luxury version of this like the autobiography.
